The third section of the Apostles’ Creed states the Christian affirmation of the Holy Spirit, but it is not always clear in the church why we need the Holy Spirit. The ascension of Jesus shows us that the Holy Spirit  is necessary because the Spirit is the presence of God in the world today. He sustains the faith of the believer and keeps us united in the church. This is all so that the church can be empowered to fulfill the mission of making Jesus known in a way that surpasses what Jesus himself could accomplish in his ministry.
